Upper endoscopy is the primary tool for detecting cancer of the esophagus, stomach, and intestine, as it allows the doctor to examine the inside of the upper digestive tract with a flexible tube with a camera.
During the procedure, biopsies (tissue samples) may be taken to confirm a definitive diagnosis. It is performed under sedation, meaning the patient will be asleep and in a deep sleep. You will not feel any discomfort or pain. It is not general anesthesia.
Biopsies may be taken during the procedure for analysis. The biopsy has an additional cost of $800 pesos.
