What is upper endoscopy?
Gastrointestinal endoscopy is a procedure performed using an endoscope (a thin, flexible tube with a camera) to directly view the inside of the upper digestive tract.
It helps diagnose and treat symptoms and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, and upper intestine. It is also known as upper digestive endoscopy, panendoscopy, or gastroscopy.
It is used to diagnose conditions such as gastritis, stomach ulcers, reflux, heartburn, acid indigestion, hiatal hernias, Helicobacter pylori infection, polyps, fungal infections, other infections, stomach, esophageal, and intestinal cancers, as well as precancerous lesions, etc.
Endoscopy is an outpatient procedure; you do not need to be hospitalized. It is performed under sedation, meaning you will be asleep and in a deep sleep. You will not feel any discomfort or pain. It is not general anesthesia.
Biopsies may be taken during the procedure for analysis. The biopsy has an additional cost of $800 pesos.
One of the important requirements is that you must fast for 8 hours. All the additional information you need will be sent to you once you contact us.
If you are 50 years old or older, you are a candidate for a screening endoscopy (panendoscopy) for the early diagnosis of esophageal, stomach, and intestinal cancer. The American Association of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy recommends having a diagnostic and preventive endoscopy at age 45, even if you have no symptoms.
Prices may be adjusted or modified if additional procedures are required or necessary during the study. Prices may also be adjusted or modified depending on the patient's specific medical conditions and age. Please inform the medical staff of your age, medical history, past illnesses, suspected illnesses, and any previous surgeries.
