Recurrent abdominal pain, chronic gastritis, chronic reflux, if your gastritis or reflux has not healed with medication, persistent heartburn, indigestion that does not improve with treatment, difficulty swallowing food (dysphagia), a feeling that food is getting stuck when swallowing, pain when swallowing, black stools (melena), recurring pain in the pit of the stomach, vomiting blood or brown material, unexplained weight loss, persistent loss of appetite, persistent hiccups, constant vomiting, anemia of unknown origin, at age 45, for the prevention of esophageal, stomach, and intestinal cancer, at age 40, if there is a family history of digestive diseases or cancer, to monitor conditions such as cirrhosis, if you have a history of Barrett's esophagus, metaplasia, hyperplasia, or dysplasia, you should undergo continuous monitoring. If you have a history of esophageal varices, if you recently or in the past ingested any toxic product such as chlorine, acid or bleach, if you accidentally swallowed an object, have a chronic cough without a respiratory origin, if any of your relatives have had stomach polyps, if there are images suggestive of any disease of the stomach, esophagus and intestine through another study that has been performed, if you want to rule out that you suffer from celiac disease,

If you are already 50 years old, you are a candidate for a review endoscopy (panendoscopy) for the timely diagnosis of esophageal, stomach and intestinal cancer.

The American Association for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy recommends having a diagnostic endoscopy at age 50 even if you have no symptoms.
